So overall, the gameplay still feels about right. And if you’re not a fan of the hardcourt, you can step onto the Blacktop and do an arcade-style romp to a high score of 21. NBA Street Homecourt its not, but its a fun little game if you don’t feel like taking basketball too seriously. You start off as a lowly 60-rated player, which basically means that all of your stats are pretty bad. As you play, however, you’ll earn virtual currency (VC), the coin that makes the Neighborhood go round. VC can be used to upgrade your players attributes in the MyPlayer menu. Each attribute upgrade costs VC, and as you climb the ladder, attributes become costlier. The more you upgrade individual stat categories, the higher your overall rating becomes.
Rookie Luka Doncic also gets a two-point boost for another player ratings update. Doncics path to the NBA Rookie of the Year seems clear, but the season hasn’t quite reached the halfway point. That said, he’s clearly a special talent in the league. Luka is likely to move up in ratings as his career continues. His latest overall number is an 86, but its not hard to see him reaching that 90 rating within the near future. Maybe in 2K20? The latter allows you to create and share single players rather than entire rosters as it has been in the past. For example, if I created a killer version of Charles Barkley and shared it on 2K Share, you could download it and add it to any of your rosters. You could also choose to add just the physical appearance while maintaining your own attributes and tendencies, or vice versa. The offline CAP tool in NBA 2K18 was atrocious. There was no way the development team could bring that same tool back again in NBA 2K19. Thankfully, they didn’t and this year’s version has face sculpting, the ability to alter the length of most of the hairstyles, facial hair, stubble, and the Player DNA feature.
Madden went the same route with Longshot in last year’s game and the second chapter is on the way in August. While not everyone is a fan of The Journey or Longshot, the quality of the story is almost indisputably solid, but that’s not the best part. The fact that the modes are separate and have a definite ending makes them nice companion pieces to the main areas of FIFA and Madden. Neither imposes on the other modes within its game. If a gamer chooses not to play Longshot or The Journey, it doesn’t negatively impact their experience in Manager Mode, Connected Franchise, FUT or MUT.
Easily, Lonzo Ball was the most hyped rookie of the year. He had issues shooting the ball and only wound up playing in 52 games. However, he averaged a respectable 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.2 assists per contest in his first year. Even with the up-and-down rookie campaign, Ball is still one of the most high-profile players in the league.
